Tigers can Freeze Oakland on Home Ice Today

My favorite sign at the game yesterday was the one that pointed out that the Tigers have home ICE advantage. In Game 3 Kenny Rogers picked up where he left off in Game 3 of the ALDS and froze the Oakland Athletic hitters. Rogers has been dominant in the playoffs, pitching 15 innings and allowing no runs and only 7 hits while striking out 14 batters. That works out to a 0.00 ERA and a 0.73 WHIP. Opposing batters are only averaging .140 against him.

Jeremy Bonderman will take the mound and lead Detroit in their effort to move onto the World Series. Dan Haren will pitch for the Athletics. Bonderman was excellent in a Game 4 win that vaulted the Tigers into the ALCS. In that win against the Yankees Bonderman pitched just over 8 innings. He allowed 2 runs late but was otherwise rock solid. The powerful Yankee lineup could only manage a .167 batting average against the righty; Bonderman also had a 0.72 WHIP in that game.

If Bonderman can pick up where he left off in closing out the ALDS series it will provide Detroit with a much needed break. The Cardinals and Mets are knotted up at one win apiece in the NLCS, so the earliest either team would advance to the World Series would be the middle of next week.
