Tigers headed to the World Series!

Magglio Ordonez hit a three-run, game winning, series-clinching, walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th inning. Jeremy Bonderman had a rough first inning, giving up 2 runs. But he settled down and was solid the rest of the way, giving up 1 more earned run through just over 6 innings. He held the Athletics to 6 hits and struck out 3 batters. Wil Ledezma was also huge in this game. He came on in the 8th inning with the bases loaded and two outs. He got Marco Scutaro to pop out to end the threat. Ledezma also pitched the 9th and was rewarded with the win.

But Magglio Ordonez was the star of the game. With the Tigers down 3-2, his homer in the bottom of the 6th pulled Detroit even with Oakland. Then in the 9th, with Craig Monroe and Placido Polanco on base with 2 outs, Ordonez launched a Huston Street pitch into the left field seats. Comerica went absolutely nuts and the entire Tiger team greeted Maggs at home plate to celebrate the series win.

The big benefit of closing the series out in four games is it will give the Tigers some time to rest. Sean Casey and Joel Zumaya in particular might benefit from it being probably close to a week before the World Series starts up. That should hopefully give Zumaya plenty of time for his right wrist to heal. If Casey has any chance at all of playing in the next round it would be with more time until the series starts.
