Meech, Quincey to fill in for Markov and Kronwall

Daniil Markov busted his hand in the third period of the game against St. Louis this past tuesday. The Freep reports he will be out for three weeks. That’s too bad as he was really playing well alongside Nicklas Lidstrom. Helene St. James suggests Lidstrom will now be paired up with Andreas Lilja.

As a result the Wings will call up two Grand Rapids Griffins to fill out the defensive pairings. Derek Meech will be available for the game tonight against the Blues. Kyle Quincey, who was one of the last players assigned to Grand Rapids after a long look in Detroit during the preseason, is just getting back on the ice in Grand Rapids after suffering a concussion late last month. If he looks like he is playing at full strength he will probably also get called up at some point during Markov’s stay on the injured reserve list.

Detroit has been hit hard by injuries this year. The only silver lining to all the injuries is it has resulted in many younger players getting ice time in Detroit. Although it would be nice if Niklas Kronwall could stay off the IR list when he comes back from his most recent setback.
