Wings 2, Canadiens 0

Jiri Hudler netted the game winner and Pavel Datsyuk scored the insurance goal to lead the Wings to their 4th straight win. Dominik Hasek made 23 saves to earn his 6th shutout of the season. As has been the case numerous times this season, the Wings had several quality scoring chances, generating 39 shots on goal.

Guillaume Latendresse had a great chance to tie the game in the third period but his putback of a rebound off his initial shot hit the post. The Canadiens would never get as good an opportunity to tie the score and Datsyuk gave the Wings an insurmountable lead on a nice give and go play with Henrik Zetterberg. Datsyuk has been on fire and his willingness to call his own number has made him even more dangerous. Since the December 5 game against St. Louis - an 18 game stretch - he has scored 10 goals, tallied 16 assists, which is good for nearly 1.5 points per game.

Mathieu Schneider again sat out the game as he rehabs a sprained knee. The special teams were a wash, with Montreal going 0-5 and the Wings going 0-2 with the man advantage. The Wings dominated the faceoff circle, winning 57% of all faceoffs and nearly 66% in the defensive zone. Dominik Hasek was named the first star of the game, which might be some consolation for not being named to the All Star squad.

The Wings are currently 4 points behind Nashville for the Central Division lead and 5 points behind Anaheim for the Western Conference lead.
