Red Wings - Avalanche Updates
Matt over at On the Wings always has a really good gameday post. Today’s is no exception. He points out that Peter Budaj is likely to start in net for Colordao:
It looks like Peter Budaj is solidifying his spot as the Avs’ starter. Big-name goalie Jose Theodore has not played a full game since Colorado’s 3-2 win over Chicago on December 23rd, and has either been pulled early or played relief duty since.
The Rocky Mountain News reports that Budaj will in fact start for the Avs. This will be his 11th consecutive start. It is unclear who will start in net for Detroit, other than the fact it will not be Dominik Hasek, who started in goal last night. If Chris Osgood is sufficiently recovered from the flu he will get the start. If not Joey MacDonald will likely be in net. His last start for Detroit was a 3-2 loss to San Jose on December 2. He stopped 32 of 35 shots in that game.
Based on John Niyo’s weblog post, I am going to guess we see Joey MacDonald in net. MacDonald played a solid game for Grand Rapids on January 13th, stopping .900 of the shots he faced and stopping all of the shootout attempts he faced.
