Hasek out with Wonky Wrist

If you’re going to challenge a Red Wing to a game of thumb wrestling, pick either Hank Zetterberg of Dominik Hasek. Both players are nursing tender wrists. Zetterberg received one cortisone shot last summer and seems to be holding up reasonably well. Domink Hasek might need one as well as he is expected to miss tomorrow’s game against Calgary as a result of the wrist injury. Ansar Khan has the latest in his MLIVE blog:

Dominik Hasek has tendinitis in his right wrist and won’t play the next two games, the Wings said Saturday. Tests revealed the wrist is not broken, but general manager Ken Holland said if Hasek doesn’t feel better by Monday, he might get a cortisone shot.

The good news I guess is that it’s not his groin. So long as it isn’t a break it will hopefully be manageable and allow Hasek to continue to play after sitting out the next two games. With Chris Osgood still not being fully healthy the Wings will likely call up either Stefan Liv or Jimmy Howard. Joey MacDonald will get the start tomorrow night against the Flames.

Stefan Liv has gotten one start for the Griffins this month, beating the Syracuse Crunch 4-3 on February 7th. Jimmy Howard returned to action last night and stoned the Iowa Stars, blanking them 4-0.
