More on Hasek’s Wrist…
Ansar Khan at MLIVE provides a brief overview of Dominik Hasek’s wrist trouble in this article.
After experiencing some swelling, Hasek saw a specialist on Friday. Tests revealed no damage, but his wrist was immobilized and he’s taking anti-inflammatory medication. If his body doesn’t respond to the medicine, he’ll see another specialist on Monday and might require a cortisone shot.
The good news - if there is any regarding an injury to Hasek - is that Joey MacDonald will get another start right after his great performance against St. Louis on Thursday night. If the team plays just a little bit better than they did in the first period of that game they should be in good shape. Unless Hasek makes a very quick recovery the odds are good MacDonald start’s tonight’s game against Calgary and Monday’s game against Philadelphia.
Speaking of Philadelphia, I caught a bit of their game last night and quickly came to a conclusion on what Detroit should do as far as a trade with the Flyers is concerned: get Simon Gagne. The guy has just been on fire lately, tallying 5 goals over the past 4 games. Peter Forsberg only has 3 goals over the past month but has registered an assist in all but two games since January 11th.
The game against Calgary just got much more interesting as the Flames added Brad Stuart and Wayne Primeau in a trade with the Bruins. The Flames have made some excellent additions, bringing in Alex Tanguay in a trade with Colorado during the NHL draft, trading for Craig Conroy, and now adding perhaps the most sought-after defenseman this season. Oh, and they also picked up a pretty solid 3rd or 4th line center in Wayne Primeau.
Anaheim and San Jose are at the front of the class in the Western Conference but Calgary really bolstered their playoff chances over the past two weeks. It will be interesting to see if Stuart plays for the Flames tonight.
Khan also reports the Wings have renewed contract talks with Tomas Holmstrom. He talked with Homer’s agent and it sounds like he would like to sign for three years. Given that the winger is on pace to notch his second straight season of scoring close to 30 goals a deal is likely to get done. Danny Markov will not play tonight but should be back in the lineup on Monday.

[…] Joey MacDonald will be in net tonight as Dominik Hasek will be resting his wrist, which is inflammed. Dom will sit out at least two games in hopes that the rest, along with some medication, will cause the inflammation to go down. If not, they’ll take another look and consider giving him cortisone. […]
