Cross Marco Sturm off the List

A deal between Boston and Marco Sturm was rumored to be in the works. The Boston Herald reports it is all but official.

The Bruins were, according to a well-placed source, “very close to signing him. All that’s left is the dotting of the i’s and the crossing of the t’s.”

Yesterday morning [Boston general manager Peter] Chiarelli confirmed that the B’s want to keep the 28-year-old Sturm, who has been on fire with seven goals in eight games going into tonight’s match with the Lightning at the St. Pete Times Forum.

Chiarelli said his intention all along has been to try to hang on to Sturm, who has 19-10-29 totals and a minus-19 in 53 games while earning $2.1 million.

There hadn’t been much talk about Detroit trying to acquire Strum so I don’t think this seriously limits the pool of players the Red Wings are probably looking at via trade.

Its about time they made a move that made sense. It would be better to move Glenn Murray. He is older and slower. They already have traded for a younger version of him. They need better passing defenseman.

    Michael,

If Murray were an unrestricted free agent after this season I suspect there would be as much interest in him as there is in Bill Guerin. With that contract he could be a tough guy to move.
