Looking at Potential Trade Partners: Part 2 - Los Angeles

With the trade deadline winding down and no really hot rumors on potential trades, I have decided to take a look at each team that is definitely out of the playoff race to try and determine what assets they have that would be of potential interest to the Red Wings.

I am looking at each team starting with the teams with the lowest point total and working my way forwards. I started this off by looking at the Philadelphia Flyers. Next up: Los Angeles.

The Kings have a very young and talented team. They could be next year’s Pittsburgh Penguins, meaning they could make the playoffs and be a team no one wants to face. Because so many of their key players are young though, they are not likely to be traded. Their top winger is Alexander Frolov. The 24 year old left winger is on pace to put up 41 goals and 78 points. There is no way the Kings trade him.

The only other top 6 winger they have is former Michigan Wolverine Mike Cammalleri. Cammalleri is a bit of a mite at 5′9″ but has a solid all-around game. He’s on pace to pot 32 goals and was a 26 goal scorer last year. He doesn’t have great size but is a responsbile defensive forward. Unfortunately he is 24 so he isn’t likely to be traded by the Kings.

So the Kings have two very good top 6 forwards but are unlikely to trade either. How about gritty 3rd or 4th line players? The Kings don’t have the kind of grinders and bangers that Philadelphia has. The lone option might be Jason Ward, although he isn’t a great skater. He just doesn’t seem like he’d add anything over the guys Detroit already has.

So Alexander Frolov would fit exactly as far as what Detroit needs but there is no way Los Angeles trades him. Mike Cammalleri would be a good fit although not ideal, but he also isn’t likely to be traded prior to the deadline. There is a reason there have been no rumors about Detroit talking about trades with the Kings.
