Wings Weigh Plans B, C…
Ansar Khan at MLIVE reports that the Wings have moved on from their initial attempts to sign Peter Forsberg, Keith Tkachuk and Bill Guerin and have started contacting teams to see what other options are available to help the team via trade.
“The so-called rental-player price is significantly higher than it’s been in the past . . . Maybe sellers figure there’s a lot of buyers,'’ Wings general manager Ken Holland said. “We’re prepared to deal some futures — prospects or draft picks — but we’re not going to empty the cupboard to make one more run at the (Stanley) Cup.'’
One wildcard is teams that have impending unrestricted free agents they think they will have a hard time signing. Both the New York Islanders and the Edmonton Oilers are having trouble signing key a key forward who they might ultimately decide to trade rather than lose the player for nothing.
There are reports Jason Blake could be traded and if that happens they Islanders want to move him to a team in the Western Conference. Washington is in a similar situation with Dainius Zubrus and might opt to move him by tomorrow afternoon.
