Mike Babcock not impressed with being first
You wan’t to know how the season’s going?
Talk to me after the 1st round of the playoffs.
This Associated Press article was picked up by the Register-Guard in Eugene, Oregon. There is a pretty good quote from the Red Wings head coach on the significance of claiming first place in the NHL on Wednesday night.
“Is there a team we want to play in the first round?'’ Babcock asked Wednesday following a 4-2 victory over the Predators. “No. They’re all too good.
“In the Western Conference last year, the top four seeds lost in the first round. Well, the West is even closer than it was last year.'’
You have to like how blunt Mike Babcock is when it comes to the bottom line. The Red Wings are in the playoffs, and for many that was believed to be a tall task in and of itself. But Babcock will mention any time he gets a chance that the only thing this team will be judged on will be how they did in the post season.
The Red Wings message board over at Hockey’s Future has an interesting James Bond theme they are using for the playoff run this year. The reason Bond was chosen because of the 007 attached to his name which ties in nicely with the year. The first movie they are using is One Round is Not Enough which is a play off the movie The World is Not Enough from the James Bond franchise. Here’s how the avatars look:

The NHL Arena Program breaks down all of the potential matchups for the Red Wings in this year’s playoffs. Most Wings fans seem to fall into two camps: those who do not want to play San Jose at all and those who want to face the Sharks because if Detroit can somehow win the series it will give the team a huge boost and could lead to a nice playoff run.
Chris Chelios points out in this interview with Stoney and Wojo that having home ice is a benefit in case a series goes 7 games.
Ansar Khan reports on Ken Holland’s recent discussions with Igor Grigorenko’s agent regarding signing him to a contract to play in Detriot. Holland is “hopeful and optimistic” that Grigs will play in Detroit next season.
Hockey’s Future also has a list of players they deem to be the top 50 prospects. Red Wings minor league goaltender Jimmy Howard ranked 25th while blue-liner Jakub Kindl ranked 50th.
