Commentary on the Red Wings’ Injury Situation

Yesterday I threw out my opinion on when certain players will return from injury. Members of the Detroit media had a chance to actually talk to the players or Mike Babcock and here is what they had to say.

“It’s not broken,” Babcock said of his young forward’s foot. “There’s no problem that way. It hurts, he can’t put any weight on it, but he’ll be playing in a couple of days.”

Danny Markov
Helene St. James - Detroit Free Press

Defenseman Danny Markov, out four games with upper-body soreness, said he thought he would play tonight, but Babcock was unsure. “Everyone says they’re coming back and then you have a real practice,” he said, meaning a decision wouldn’t be made until this morning.

Johan Franzen and Dan Cleary
From the same St. James article:

Johan Franzen (upper body) and Dan Cleary (knee) won’t play before Tuesday and more likely will wait until the trip is over.

But Ted Kulfan talked to both players and they seem to be optimistic about getting some ice time in Calgary:

…right wing Dan Cleary (right knee) and center Johan Franzen (upper body) said they’re hoping to play Tuesday in Calgary.

So my guesses on the dates for these player to return to action were probably a little better than my picks for my NCAA bracket.
