Todd Bertuzzi talks with WDFN
MLIVE has the audio from Todd Bertuzzi’s interview with WDFN sports radio. Here are some of the topics Bert discussed:
The status of his back: Bertuzzi joked that he thought about having some shirts made so he could wear the one that best describes how his back feels on a given day so he wouldn’t have to answer questions about his condition. He said he is making good progress and also said something about playing for the final 9 games of the season. So that would peg his retrurn to the ice on March 22 in a game against Columbus.
His reply to people who say he is aloof: Said he doesn’t worry about it and just keeps his mouth shut, shows up and works. He said that the people who know him know what he’s like and left it at that.
Whether he was wecomed in the Detroit locker room: Aside from his comment on when he will return to the lineup, I thought this was the second-most interesting reply. Bert said he was welcomed and that it’s something that’s just generally true amongst hockey players. He referred to his times playing with Team Canada and how all of these guys have competed against one another since at least minors but are able to play together as a team.
What he thinks about some of the criticism Markus Naslund has taken: Bertuzzi came to Naslund’s defense, saying while he wasn’t putting up as many points he is a plus player and is doing the things that are necessary to help the team.
March 8: This was the last question and he simply said you do not hear anything about the event from him. He also mentioned that anytime anything positive happens with him that fairly shortly thereafter there will be some type of report on the incident. He said that he has tried to contact Steve Moore to apologize but Moore is unwilling to accept that apology. Moore has said as much in recent interviews.
He was also asked if he was told what line he would play on and it seemed like he was about to talk about it but then went into how all 4 lines are playing well and how he’s just working on getting back. We should know what line he will start on five days though.
