Red Wings Face Flames Tonight
Colorado is now 4 points behind Calgary for the final playoff spot, so the Flames have a lot to play for tonight. They should play with a lot of energy so the thing to watch will be to see if Detroit can match their level of play. It’s something Detroit has struggled with in recent losses.
Helene St. James has a good article on Kyle Calder’s emergence since being traded to Detroit. I’ve mentioned several times how the second line became Detroit’s best line after Hank Zetterberg went down with a back injury. With Pavel Datsyuk tying his career scoring streak and the second line as a source of offense the Wings aren’t struggling as much on offense as they did earlier this season.
Keep an eye out for the return of Dan Cleary and Johan Franzen. Both players could return to the ice tonight. Danny Markov returned during the game in Vancouver so it is good to see Detroit is starting to get healthy. That is going to be important as the team heads towards the playoffs.
With a win Detroit can reclaim the top spot in the NHL. The team is currently one point behind Nashville with a game in hand. Matt over at On the Wings has his Gameday Article up. Bill over at Abel to Yzerman ponders potential first round opponents. I’ll have something to say on this matter tomorrow.
