Tomas Kopecky Signs 2-year Extension
Tomas Kopecky in action earier this season
Tomas Kopecky obviously made a pretty good impression over what has been a pretty abbreviated season. He just signed on to remain in Detroit for two more seasons:
“Tomas was becoming a solid NHL player,” general manager Ken Holland said. “He suffered a setback with the injury this year, but we’re confident he will return and continue to improve.”
“It’s a big relief,” said Kopecky, a Wings second-round pick in 2000. “My wife is real happy, and I’m happy. I love the organization.” Kopecky and the Wings will decide around April 1 what the best plan of action for Kopecky is for the rest of this season.
Kopecky has good size and should help the Wings to become a more difficult team to play against, which is one of Mike Babcock’s chief goals as the head coach.
