Several Current Basketball Players Upbeat about Beilein

Nathan Fenno and Jim Carty report that several current Wolverine basketball players look forward to playing for John Beilein at Michigan:

Michigan players learned of Beilein’s hiring after a reporter’s phone calls while watching the Final Four championship game on television.

“I’m really excited. From everything I’ve heard, he’s a great coach,'’ freshman Reed Baker said. “We’re definitely moving in the right direction.'’

Added freshman DeShawn Sims: “I’m glad we finally got a coach hired so we can continue with our offseason. … There hasn’t been any guidance (since Amaker was fired). I’m glad we got someone in.'’

Sims and freshman Ekpe Udoh reaffirmed they have no plans to transfer.

This is great news as it gives the team the best chance to experience a quicker turnaround. Kelvin Grady’s father was reached regarding the hire but his son, who agreed to play for Tommy Amaker at Michigan next season, was not available to comment on whether his commitment to the program is still solid.
