Hasek…burns for another Cup

Sounds good to me, just so long as it doesn’t burn when he pees. If it does he might want to get that checked out. Larry Wigge at NHL.com talked with the Red Wings netminder and it sounds like Hasek is geared up for this year’s playoffs.

“I’m hungry. I have motivation. I have something to prove to myself … and others,” he told me. “I knew that I could still play at an elite level.”

“To me, the motivation to win another Stanley Cup is the same as it was in 2002, when I was trying to prove…to everyone that I could win a Cup,” Hasek said.

Wigge also tells the story about how Dominik Hasek refused the rest of his salary during the 2003-04 season when he could not play due to injury. It was something Hasek didn’t have to do but Ken Holland said it made the decision easier as far as whether to bring Hasek back this season.

“I’ll never forget that he won a Stanley Cup for us,” Holland continued. “But more important, he was a man of his word with me when he got hurt in 2003-04 and he walked away from $3 million. How many people would walk away from $3 million?”

As I mentioned earlier this week, if Hasek plays as well as Curtis Joseph did in the last series against the Flames then the Wings will be in good shape.
