Many people use the metaphor of the Stanley Cup playoffs being a marathon, not a sprint. Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock turned that metaphor on it’s head by declaring that, no, it’s really a sprint to four wins. He’s used the same terminology regarding the team’s style of play and approach to playing in the Saddledome.

After practice Monday in Calgary, Wings coach Mike Babcock had this message for his team: Keep your foot on the accelerator.

“Sometimes it’s human nature when you’ve won a couple games to let up a bit, but I don’t believe that’s what’s going to happen with our group,'’ Babcock said. “We’re really determined. Momentum is a scary thing. If it gets going the wrong way, how do you stop it?'’

I think that was part of what Mike Babcock was talking about when discussing Todd Bertuzzi’s status for tonight’s game. This quote is from Ansar Khan’s blog:

…”you got to fit in like the team’s doing and you got to play hard within that system. If he’s ready to go, he’s in.'’

I think we’ll know by the end of the first period whether Calgary is able to right the ship on their home ice or if they are going to have the same fate at home that they had on the road.
