The 666 Line?
Red Wings fans have struggled to come up with names for the lines that rival the EGG line, the Grind Line, the Legion of Doom and the two kids and a goat line. Helene St. James reports that at this morning’s skate one line was comprised of Johan Franzen - Robert Lang - Todd Bertuzzi.
I was trying to come up with a name for this particular line that would rival the “600 pound gorilla” joke [where does a 600 pound gorilla sit? anywhere he damn well pleases] when I added up each player’s weight. It’s obviously a line that features plenty of size. According to TSN the line weighs a combined 668 pounds. Close enough, so I decided on the 666 line.
Now obviously a line that references satanic imagery and includes Robert Lang is a stretch at best. Bert (given his history) and Franzen (known affectionately to Wings fans as Franzenstein) totally fit the name though. Maybe Mike Babcock needs to let Dan Cleary (who weighs in at 211) center the line for the name to stick.
