NHL Takes appropriate Action

I’ve been critical of the officiating in the NHL but I think they handled this situation pretty well. Here is what TSN is reporting on the punitive actions taken against the Flames.

Calgary Flames goaltender Jamie McLennan has been suspended five games, Calgary coach Jim Playfair has been fined $25,000 and the Flames’ organization has been fined $100,000 for a variety of actions late in Game 5 of the team’s Western Conference Quarter-final series against the Detroit Red Wings.

Since Noodles can’t go (ha), Brent Krahn has been called up from the AHL to serve as the backup and designated goalie goon. It’s probably for the best that the league suspended McLennan and no one else. You want Jim Playfair coaching this team and if Detroit is able to pull out the win you want it with Daymond Langkow and Jarome Iginla having to take part in the ceremonial handshake at the end of the series.

That would be the best punishment possible.
