Red Wings Updates

Matt over at On the Wings has a good update on the injury situation with Tomas Holmstrom and Brett Lebda. Both players look to be unlikely to play tomorrow night in Game One. He also speculates on which player would be put on the top line in Homer’s place.

Khan also makes some suggestions as to what the lines may look like with Holmstrom’s absence. I think Babcock will be loathe to break up either the second or third line, so a Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Filppula top line seems likely.

I agree with Khan that Samuelsson could play on the top line in Holmstrom’s absence. But I also wouldn’t be shocked if the the Mule gets bumped up one line to play with Hank Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk. He provides a good net front presence, which is Homer’s forte, and he also would add some size to that line. He could also be effective going into the corners and winning battles for the puck. In that scenario Kyle Calder could move up the second line. Here would be my guess on the lines for Thursday night’s game:

Zetterberg-Dasyuk-Franzen
Calder-Lang-Bertuzzi
Cleary-Draper-Maltby
Samuelsson-Filppula-Hudler

Sarah over at On the Wings has a post on the officials who have been selected for the Round Two games. I agree with her that Mick McGeough did a decent job in Game 1 against Calgary. No need to tempt fate and keep him around, though. Bill McCreary will be officiating games this round though, so we’ve got that to look forward to once again.

Christy over at Behind the Jersey has her 2nd Round predictions up. I obviously agree with her quite a bit. Bill over at Abel to Yzerman points us to this series preview from Sharks blog Behind the Mask.
