Homer, Fire on Ice and…well…fire

Hey, I can post a pic of a hot chick because it's Red Wings related. Nice.

Ansar Khan from MLIVE has his latest scouting report. Today’s is on Tomas Holmstrom.

Since Holmstrom entered the NHL in 1996, nobody has absorbed more punishment around the crease. His willingness to pay the price has provided the Wings a dimension most other teams lack, particularly on the power play. And now that he doesn’t have to worry about getting cross-checked in the back by a defenseman or slashed in the ankles by a goaltender, he’s been that much more effective. He’s scored 30 and 29 goals in each of the last two seasons, the most productive of his career.

Holmstrom would have had more than 30 goals last season but teams have adapted from beating the crap out of him in front of the net to beating the crap out of him in front of the net while their goaltender flops around on the ice and draws a goalie interference penalty on Homer. Manu Gibobili has nothing on nothing on several of the netminders in the league when it comes to falling to the playing suface like they’ve been shot.

Bill over at Abel to Yzerman takes a look at the Red Wings latest marketing campaign and eviscerates the effort. So he decided to try and help the team by holding a contest to design a better graphic. So stop by and chip in with your contribution. With my mad photoshop skillz my entry is guaranteed to be comically bad.

Big Al over at The Wayne Fontes Experience chips in with a very nice contribution to Red Wings coverage. He writes about Henrik Zetterberg’s girlfriend who is going to move to Birmingham to be with him this hockey season. Pete over at Yzerman is God has also covered this story.

Finally, George Malik over at Snapshots links to an article from Crain’s Detroit that the fan tax has received such strong negative response that it is “dead on arrival”.
