It’s a Mere Flesh Wound
Looks like it’s time to test Sean Casey for steroids. The light-hitting first baseman keyed the Tigers to a win last night, hitting a solo home run that kicked off a 4-run seventh inning en route to a 6-4 Tigers win. The win put an end to a 5-game losing streak.
All kidding aside, the Tigers need to have the guys who are actually in the lineup pick up some of the slack. With Kenny Rogers, Gary Sheffield, Marcus Thames, Pudge Rodriguez and Joel Zumaya out of the lineup the team needs to adopt the mentality of the black knight and attempt to chew their opponent’s legs off if that’s what it takes.
The good news is the bullpen came through last night. Fernando Rodney and Todd Jones each pitched an inning and didn’t give up any hits or walks. Obviously you’d like to see the team play better through the latest rash of injuries, but they’re only half a game behind Cleveland. Considering they just went 5-13 since July 20 it could be much, much worse.
