Red Wings top 20 prospects, training camp
Zoran Manjlovic from Hockey’s Future has updated his list of the top 20 Red Wings prospects. The only real change is the addition of Brendan Smith and Joakim Andersson who were drafted this summer.
1. Jimmy Howard, G
2. Jakub Kindl, D
3. Johan Ryno, RW
4. Jan Mursak, LW
5. Brendan Smith, D
6. Justin Abdelkader, LW
7. Igor Grigorenko, RW
8. Jonathan Ericsson, D
9. Dick Axelsson, LW
10. Kyle Quincey, D
11. Darren Helm, C
12. Daniel Larsson, G
13. Cory Emmerton, C
14. Evan McGrath, C
15. Joakim Andersson, C
16. Derek Meech, D
17. Mattias Ritola, LW
18. Logan Pyett, D
19. Gennady Stolyarov, RW
20. Anton Axelsson, LW
The beneficiary of this pipeline of talent will likely be the Grand Rapids Griffins. The top three prospects are likely to play for the AHL affiliate. Jan Mursak, who ranks 4th on the prospect list, is too young to play in the AHL and will spend another year in Saginaw in the OHL. The defense and goaltending should be excellent: Howard, Kindl, Ericsson, Quincey, Meech could suit up for the team, although Meech would need to clear waivers in order to be sent to Grand Rapids.
Red Wings Central has the roster up for the prospect camp that kicks off on Friday as well as the full list of all invitees to training camp. The guy everyone will have their eyes on this weekend will be Igor Grigorenko. Here are the guys who are prospects and will participate in training camp:
Randy Cameron
Cory Emmerton
Darren Helm
Evan McGrath
Jan Mursak
Mattias Ritola
Johan Ryno
Zack Torquato
Ryan Oulahen
Jonathan Ericsson
Jakub Kindl
Derek Meech
Kyle Quincey
Jimmy Howard
College players like Justin Abdelkader, Brendan Smith and Bryan Rufenach are obviously not on the roster. But for some reason Joakim Andersson, Logan Pyett and Daniel Larsson aren’t on the roster either.
I’ll have my guesses on who makes the team, the line pairings, and who assumes Robert Lang’s spot as the player the fanbase loves to hate when I add my part to the Central Division Preview. The Detroit bloggers are going to weigh in on Monday, September 24.
So yeah, it was sure nice of the Michigan Football team to end their season in time for the unofficial start of the hockey season.
