Cripplefight!
So the Michigan Football internets have deigned to call this weekend’s matchup with Notre Dame Cripplefight 2007. I like the name but I dont’ think there’s any way an 0-2 Michigan squad playing an 0-2 Notre Dame can live up to this:
The Red Wings headed off yesterday afternoon to Traverse City for training camp, which officially starts tomorrow. David Guarlnick from the Detroit News was able to snap some pictures before the team climbed aboard the bus.

Ansar Khan stopped by and chatted with head coach Mike Babcock. Babcock said his coaching staff is very familiar with Brent Sopel and they think he can be a top 4 defenseman:
(Wings assistant coach) Todd McClellan coached him juniors, I’ve known him since he was a kid, we have a real good feel for him and think he’s a top-four NHL defenseman. Now, just because we think it doesn’t mean anything, he’s got to relax and let his skill come to the forefront and show us what he brings (though the preseason).'’
Babcock also told Khan that the team feels good about the direction things are headed, particularly after a run that took them all the way to the Western Conference finals.
“We thought we were close last year,” Babcock said. “But, it was the first time we’d been to the (conference finals) since ‘02 and we had back-to-back 50-win seasons for the first time in (franchise) history. So we did a lot of good things.”
But for now the focus is on re-establishing their work ethic and being harder to play against. Oh, and play lots of golf.
Rested and ready to…hit the links

Following Chris’ coverage of the Blackhawks, the Columbus Blue Jackets bloggers are up next in our tour of the Central Division. So they will have their takes on Ken Hitchcock’s team on Monday. We also have another St. Louis blogger on board for the Division preview! Colleen - otherwise known as The Hockey Chick - will join Bethany in covering the Blue Notes.
