Snapped
This was the second-straight game against the Blackhawks that I missed due to seeing a band in concert. I’m a bit PO’d about the loss but not at the team or anything like that; just about the missed opportunity to make history. The Detroit sports landscape is pretty crowded right now so if the team would have accomplished something no other Red Wings team has ever done it would have been a story that probably would have drawn some attention from the mainstream media in the city.
In one fell swoop Chicago ended Detroit’s 9-game winning streak and Chris Osgood’s 8-game winning streak to start the season. Henrik Zetterberg continued is point streak as the Blackhawks drew to within 7 points of Detroit and now hold sole possession of second place. The Chicago organization broadcasted the home game which was big news and I guess it’s good for them that Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews played a big role in the win. I actually saw someone wearing a Blackhawks jersey at the concert last night and I can’t tell you the last time outside of going to the UC that I’ve seen someone wear one of their jerseys.
One good sign that might be obscured due to Chicago’s dynamic duo of Kane and Toews: Jiri Hudler had a goal and an assist last night. He has scored 4 goals and added 2 assists over the past 6 games.
Mike Babcock mentioned that his team was outhustled to loose pucks and seemed to accept that is the way it goes sometimes. I’ll take a look at the game and have some thoughts later on.
The recently ended streak that is going to get most of the attention is going to be the Lions’ three game winning streak. I think it’s clear they are finally benefitting from NFL parity and in a sense that’s progress. The next three games are going to go a long way towards determining whether the Leos are a playoff team or are simply competitive enough to play at a .500 level in a league that tilts the tables in favor of the underdog.
