Kid line a glimpse at future?

Early in the St. Louis game the second line was comprised of Johan Franzen - Valtteri Filppula - Jiri Hudler. They performed well and this could very well be a good lineup for Mike Babcock to use in the future. Mikael Samuelsson has produced points and has good size so he’s been a fixture on the second line. The good sign from a competition standpoint is that Hudler is starting to produce points, which should put him back into the mix for a second line spot. Jiri Hudler has generated 7 points in 5 games. Samuelsson generated 7 points over 9 games.

With Franzen and Filppula on the second line they would be able to dig the puck out of the corners and would be sound enough two-way forwards where Mike Babcock wouldn’t have concerns like he would if the second line featured both Hudler and Samuelsson. Franzen could also play a Homer-like role by screening the goalie and cleaning up the garbage in front of the net. Sammy tends to stick to the perimeter.

This talk starts to make more sense now that Hudler is starting to become a point producer.
