Wings overcome Blue Jackets, snap 3-game skid
I wasn’t able to catch much of the game yesterday but I was finally able to pick up NHL TV so I’ll be interested in checking the channel out. I’ve heard the channel will also broadcast AHL games which will be pretty cool. Detroit beat Columbus 5-4 to gain the shootout win and snap their three-game losing streak.
Chris Osgood had 36 saves and is 9-1 on the season. The DZH line was on the ice for three of Detroit’s goals, including two power play goals. Aaron Downey single-handedly drew a 5 on 3 power play that resulted in two Detroit goals, so he might be the unsung hero in this game. He went to the net and was roughed up by Pascal Leclaire and Jody Shelly. Nick Lidstrom and Tomas Holmstrom each scored goals during those two penalties. Johan Franzen scored the game-winner during the shootout.
The Central Division continues to look very competitive as we move towards the end of the second month of action. But even after Detroit’s three-game skid they still hold a four point lead for the best record in the Western Conference. The Blackhaws, who have gained 8 of their 23 points against the Wings, are firmly in position to claim a playoff spot. So long as Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane can handle the rigors of the long NHL season they look to be Detroit’s biggest rival right now within the division.
