Good on ya Feds
Happy Times for Fedorov

Sergei Fedorov scored the game-winning - and thus playoff clinching - goal for the Washington Capitals. It all but assured Alexander Ovechkin of the Hart trophy as the league’s most valuable player and not only put the Caps in the playoffs but also gave them the Southeast title and the #3 seed.
Fedorov clearly struggled to be the dominant player on both the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Part of that could have been due to management changes at both organizations but he simply wasn’t suited to being the dominant player at that stage of his career. There were a lot of Red Wings fans who wanted to bring him back but that didn’t seem to make much sense to me given the way he left the organization. He could have been a Red Wing for life - or at least until his contract got bought out following the lockout which would have likely happened if his game deteriorated as much in Detroit as it did in Anaheim.
But just because I felt Fedorov’s time in Detroit had come and gone, I never understood why fans boo him. Sure, maybe his first game or two back at Detroit, but all of these years later it’s just completely embarrassing. I’m also glad to see him find a team where he doesn’t have to lead and can instead be a veteran presence who contributes. Yesterday he was playing on the top power play unit and played on a line with Alexander Semin and Matt Cooke. Cooke’s the better PKer at this stage of his career so he played more short-handed ice time than Feds.
Hopefully Fedorov has found a home in Washington. Maybe he can play a role for the Caps similar to the one Igor Larinov played for the younger Russian players when the Red Wings would roll out the Russian 5. It would be a fitting end to his career and would be a nice way for him to resurrect his career from the lost years in Anaheim and Columbus.
