Top Red Wings of All Time
The Pistons just announced their “top 30″ Pistons of all time. Of course it shows no ability to edit or make hard decisions [six deep on average at every position!]. You could create a really good list with just 10 names [two deep] and have some solid controversy and conversation about who should make the cut. What, Kent Benson didn’t make the list?! How dare they…
Seriously, here’s a two-deep that is only minorly flawed but is defenisble while also creating controversy.
PG
Isiah Thomas
Chauncey Billups
SG
Dave Bing
Joe Dumars
SF
Dave DeBusschere [technically a power forward but he’s 6′6″]
Adrian Dantley
PF
Rick Mahorn
Ben Wallace [often played center but he’s 6′9″]
C
Bob Lanier
Bill Laimbeer
Sure, some people would cry about leaving out Sheed, Aguirre, Tay and Rip off the list. So what? Let them try and make a case for their inclusion. And as for guys like Grant Hill, Jerry Stackhouse and Lindsey Hunter - this has to be a joke.
But this got me to thinking about the top Red Wings of all time. So I’m going to put together four forward lines, three pairs of d-men [like a hockey game] and one netminder of the greatest Red Wings of all time. That’s it - just 19 of the greatest to ever wear the Winged Wheel: four centers, four right wings, four left wings, six d-men and one netminder. Oh hell, I’ll also include the greatest coach to ever coach in Detroit.
All killer, no filler.

I’ve taken that time to assemble a single team comprised of the best players to wear the Winged Wheel sweater and have enlisted the help of hockey historian Joe Pelletier from the Greatest Hockey Legends website to get some quotes from him as well as request that he give me some players I missed who are worthy of consideration for the Red Wings dream team.
