So yeah, Buzz Bissinger…
I personally don’t get the whole mainstream media v. blogger tete a tete. I mean sure, there are lunatic fringes within both groups who come off like raving lunatics whenever describing or discussing the other side. I tend to agree with Will Leitch’s take where he said all you can do is sit back and watch these people immolate themselves. It definitely has a bit of a gawking at a car wreck kind of appeal.
But at least the latest flashpoint had one moment of unintentional humor that made it all worthwhile. Here is the video.
The part I am referring to is when Bob Costas refers to some of the bawdy language and egregious criticism that appears on blogs like Deadspin. In particular he referred to a post on Sean Salisbury leaving ESPN. He went on to read some comments.
“Good riddance fuckface”
“So long you fetus-faced windbag”
“Good luck managing a Dennys you douchebag”
The look on Leitch’s face as he tried to stress that those were comments from Deadspin readers and not his own comments within his post on the story was just hilarious. I’ve watched the piece 2-3 times and every single time I see that I just laugh my ass off.
Based on Bissinger’s comments he clearly doesn’t spend any time reading blogs, and that’s fine. But why on earth anyone gives his viewpoint on them any credence is beyond me.
