Farewell, Reg
If you grew up during the late ’70s and early ’80s you witnessed an era of filmmaking that would make Orson Welles blush. But movies like Caddyshack and Slapshot and Airplane! were great in the same way that in your adolescence you thought Kiss was the greatest rock and roll band ever.
Slapshot obviously had a little more depth given the storyline but of course it made up for that shortcoming by featuring the Hanson brothers and brought the world of old time goon it up hockey to the big screen.
“Putting on the foil” is a phrase every hockey fan knows and is always good for a laugh. There are far more knowledgeable film people who can do a proper rememberance of Paul Newman’s career. I think that watching that clip of the Hanson brothers’ entry onto the ice, seeing Michael Ontkean’s disgust, watching Paul Newman realize instantly what he had, along with the action on the ice is the perfect way to send Reg Dunlop off. paul newman reggie dunlop Uncategorized
